Step by step
Before anything else, we examine the rug and talk with you about it: fiber content, how it was made, dye stability, existing wear, and every spot we can find — including the faint ones that hide in a busy Oriental pattern. This is where your price is set. Nothing is washed until you’ve approved a number.
Our dusting machine drives tens of thousands of harmonic vibrations per minute through the rug, shaking years of sand and dry grit out of the foundation. In a beach city this step matters more than anywhere: that grit is what wears rugs out. Skip it, add water, and it becomes mud in the knots.
Each rug is washed flat with chemistry chosen for its fiber. Wool Orientals get a lanolin-preserving wool shampoo; silk, viscose, and synthetics each get their own treatment. Odor problems and greasy soils are addressed here, followed by a thorough rinse until the water runs clear.
Whatever the main wash didn’t release gets individual attention with professional spotting agents. Cotton fringes are detailed separately — it’s the difference between fringe that comes back white and fringe that comes back beige.
The rug goes through a high-speed centrifuge that spins out most of the water in minutes — cutting drying time and protecting dyes from bleeding. Then it hangs in the dry room under constant airflow until bone dry, gets a final vacuum and grooming, and is rolled and wrapped for the trip home.

Two different rugs, both photographed at our Fort Lauderdale shop — one as it arrived, one after its wash. What your rug can look like depends on its fiber, dyes, and condition, and we tell you what’s realistic before any work begins.
Process questions
It’s the dry removal of sand and grit from the rug’s foundation using harmonic vibration — tens of thousands of pulses per minute shaking out soil a vacuum can’t reach. It has to come first: wet that grit and it turns to abrasive mud inside the knots.
Speed. The centrifuge spins the bulk of the water out in minutes — which also protects unstable dyes from bleeding — then rugs hang in the dry room under constant moving air until the foundation is completely dry. Never rolled damp, never left to sour.
Wool carries natural lanolin that resists stains and wear; harsh detergents strip it. We use a wool-safe shampoo formulated to preserve and replenish lanolin, so the rug keeps the natural protection it was born with.
We flag it and call you first. Repairs — edges, fringe, patching, re-knotting — are done in the same shop, but only with your go-ahead and an honest opinion on whether the rug is worth it.
